Covid-19 Trail Access Rules – Update June 2nd

Sugar Bottom Trails can again be accessed from both the main beach lot as well as the east lot off Sugar Bottom Road. Trails are open to all users as conditions allow. Please practice social distancing in the parking lots and on the trail to protect yourself and other trail users you may encounter.

• Ride well within your limits. If you are injured, you may need help from fellow riders who will have to get close to you, or add unnecessary burden to the health care system.
• Pass with extra caution. Call out your intention, and wait until there is room to maintain at least 10 feet of clearance.
• Avoid riding as a group. Ideally only ride with members of your household but if riding with others, maintain generous clearances.
• Avoid lengthy socializing with friends or acquaintances you see at the trail. A quick ‘hello’ and keep moving. Not only does standing around talking about that winter trip afford the opportunity to share germs, but it makes it harder for other riders to avoid your growing group. We can all can catch up later.
• Respectfully share these guidelines with people who haven’t seen this information. Avoid an argument, but folks who don’t comply with these needs jeopardize access for all of us.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Rock Island District announces campgrounds at Coralville Lake will reopen June 1. Restrooms, dump stations and playgrounds will be open while picnic shelters, beaches and the visitor center remain closed. Trash receptacles are also limited in many areas. Visitors should come prepared to carry-out their trash should no cans or dumpsters be available at a specific site. As a reminder, the Corps of Engineers has suspended the collection of day use fees for all Corps-managed swimming beaches and boat ramps until Oct. 1

The health and safety of our employees, contractors, volunteers and the visiting public remain our highest priority. While visiting recreation areas, visitors are encouraged to practice social distancing and other COVID-19 safety precautions required and recommended by local, state and federal authorities, to include the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Visitors are advised that individual Corps of Engineers recreation areas may be closed again if it is determined that COVID-19 safety precautions are not being followed place the public, our employees, contractors/volunteers at risk as a result. Visitors are asked to help keep the recreation sites open by recreating responsibly and always wear a life jacket when on or near the water.
