The kiosk at the main entrance to the trails got moved on Saturday(5/28). With it’s new location closer to the entrance, it is now easier to see any news or a big map of the trails system. Thanks to John and Paul for the hard work, and also thanks to Ryan (World of Bikes) for use of his shop truck, Ed, a couple of bikers going out for a ride that stopped to help, and the Corps of Engineers that help out lifting the top back on using a tractor.
The bike wash station is in place and ready to use. While it would work great to wash the bike after a dirty ride, the real reason is to wash off any possible Garlic Mustard remnants of the bike. The Army Corps of Engineers wants all bikes going in and coming out to wash their bike to stop the further growth of Garlic Mustard. Garlic Mustard is an invasive plant the can harm the native plants.
As a warning, the old path between where the kiosk was and the gate is now blocked, so it is necessary to go through the new entry into the bike wash. Also there will be a gate (coming soon) across the bike wash entry and will be closed when the trails are closed.
